Guangdong Provincial Museum is located at No. 2 Zhujiang East Road, Tianhe District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province, in the south of the central area of Zhujiang New Town, the central axis of Guangzhou's new city. It began to be planned in 1957 and officially opened to the public in 1959. The new museum was laid in December 2004 and completed in 2010. It has a total area of 67,000 square meters. It is the only provincial comprehensive museum in Guangdong Province and a national first-class museum.
The exhibitions of Guangdong Provincial Museum focus on Guangdong's history and culture, art, and nature. It is divided into four parts: History Museum, Natural History Museum, Art Museum, and Temporary Exhibition Hall. As of December 2009, the collections of Guangdong Provincial Museum have reached more than 166,000 pieces (sets). In addition, the museum also has a collection of more than 100,000 books and materials.
