Longyan is an inland city adjacent to the sea. It is a transportation hub and important channel for the West Coast Economic Zone of the Straits to extend its two wings, connect the two continents, and expand its hinterland. There is a karst cave at the foot of Cuiping Mountain, 2 kilometers east of Longyan City. The cave is named "Longyan Cave" because of the dragon-like rock pattern. The name of Longyan City comes from this. It is the only prefecture-level city in China named after the word "dragon". Longyan City is composed of the ancient Longyan Prefecture and part of the ancient Ting Prefecture that was under the jurisdiction of the People's Republic of China.
